Brewery Business: Meet Ashley from Browns Socialhouse

Summer means more time for socialization as we head outside to enjoy the warm weather – and what better setting to catch up with friends than on a beautiful patio with a cocktail in your hand? Browns Socialhouse on East Columbia is certainly the buzzing hot spot for Brewery District locals to hang out and enjoy their downtime, and we are thrilled to catch up with Ashley, this location’s Assistant General Manager.

What do you love most about Browns Socialhouse?

I have worked for Browns for 4 years now and the atmosphere is always upbeat no matter what time of day you’re here. It’s fantastic that you can walk into any Browns and expect the same high quality service and top-notch food! We have also committed to going straw-free… the environment is a cause we should all get behind and we are happy to be doing what we can to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills.

What makes the Brewery District Browns different from other locations?

We have a fantastic patio that is open all year round. You can sit in the sun and warmth in the summer of course but you are also most welcome to enjoy the comfy couches and fire pits even in the colder months.

What is your favourite thing about being located at The Brewery District?

The Brewery District is so easily accessible. We are right by Sapperton SkyTrain station, making us very convenient and easy to reach from anywhere. We are also very close to some quintessentially New Westminster destinations. When I was younger, my family and I would visit New Westminster Quay in the summer months and I’ll always associate those happy memories with this city. The beautiful views don’t hurt either.

Are there any exciting new things happening at Browns this summer that we can look forward to?

Lots of exciting things are happening! We are introducing some new items on our menu including the Southwest Bowl, a hearty meal of jasmine rice, avocado, black bean, corn, roasted red pepper, lettuce, pico de gallo and vegan chipotle mayo made.

We are also introducing two new Asian inspired dishes – the Korean Fried Chicken appetizer which is fried chicken with Korean Chili Sauce and finished with sesame seeds, cucumbers and green onions and the Szechuan Beef Noodle Bowl, which is five spice marinated beef with sautéed red peppers, snap peas, carrot and broccoli tossed with our spicy house made black bean sauce.

We love coming to Browns for your signature cocktails. What's the perfect summertime drink to enjoy on your patio?

The Rosemary Gin & Tonic is our take on a true classic. The herbaceous floral notes of the rosemary pair perfectly with the juniper forward dry gin and of course the tonic adds depth of flavour through its bright bitterness.

We have also decided to change up the old Browns Sangria recipe and reinvigorate it with the addition of four seasonal berries and Bellini slush, served with class in a wine glass. The Red or White Sangria is my personal favourite.
