Brewery Business: Meet Jenni Hart of MOVE Studios
We’re proud to introduce MOVE Studios as our feature Brewery Business. If you haven’t been to MOVE yet, you can find them in The Brewery District, just steps from our Sales Centre, at 237 Nelson’s Crescent in New Westminster. Led by lululemon Ambassador Jenni Hart, MOVE is a yoga, Pilates and dance studio offering a wide range of classes. We had the opportunity to chat with Jenni recently. Read on to hear what she had to say:
What made you want to start MOVE Studios?
I always knew that I wanted to open a community driven movement studio. I opened one in my parents' basement when I was nine! I would have all of the neighbourhood kids come over and teach them dance. We had shows that we would put on for our community... we even had a logo! So I think it was always in the cards! After years of traveling with dance, never settling down any real roots, I was so so ready to give back and really dive into the community.
What different types of workouts can people experience at MOVE Studios?
MOVE has such a diverse program so you will definitely find something that you like here! We have a full yoga and Pilates program including Hatha, Flow and Power Yoga. We offer Barre fitness and core fitness if you are up for a serious burn. We have dance classes like hip hop, Ballet and Zumba and many fusion classes like Barrecore, Yogalates and then there is MOVEit where we combine yoga, Pilates and dance all in one awesome class! We also run kids and teen yoga and dance classes as well as prenatal yoga.
It's a very broad program with the focus being to connect community through MOVEment! Keep your eyes peeled for fun events at the studio like pop ups and potlucks!
What class would you recommend for newcomers?
All of our classes are well suited for beginners but if there are mobility issues, we have several gentle classes on offer. Yin with Aromatherapy is a mellow class where you hold your stretched for several minutes and this really helps to open you up and realign the body. This is the same for our "chillout" classes. They are a great way to get used to the lingo and such! But really, all of the classes are wonderful for anyone! Haven't you always wanted to try ballet? This is the class for you! MOVE is a non-intimidating environment that really supports the idea of "hey, why not! Let's give it a go."
You’re a lululemon Ambassador. What does that mean and how did you become involved?
Lululemon looks for Ambassadors that are out there in their community living the "sweat life." They look for unique individuals to work hand in hand with lululemon on fun projects and basically be a "go to" gal for the brand in our city! So for example, this summer you will see us teaching free classes at the New West Pier Park! Check out the event poster below. Stay tuned for an event right here at The Brewery District!
What do you like most about New Westminster?
So, I live up the road from the District and I LOVE it! New West is crazy changing and it is turning into one heck of a cool city! I am super proud to be a part of such an up and coming, young, thriving community!
There are some awesome new businesses opening up such as El Santo Restaurant, Old Crow Coffee, Mila and Paige Clothing Boutique and Gemini Rising Vintage to name a few! The downtown BIA and the New West Arts Council is killing it this summer with Music by the River Thursdays nights in July (MOVE is doing flash mob for this) and Fridays on Front! Fridays on Front is going to be this really cool Night Market brand new to New West!
There is a bunch of street festivals to check out and the community is just small enough that you will probably run into your neighbours when having a pint at our very own Steel and Oak Brewing! This city is the best! Small town feel, big city vibe!
What is your favourite thing about being located at The Brewery District?
I love this development! Aside from being just beautiful buildings, we are so central to everything! We have so many things right at our fingertips and if it's not right here, it's just a stop or two always on the train! Wesgroup has been super supportive of our goals and have been with us every step of the way. This is something that I did not expect from a company of their size. They have such a strong community spirit and it shows in everything they do. I feel like this will be more than just a place to live but a place to grow and get involved and connect.
