Mojito Time

Whether you're on your patio soaking up the sun, or on vacation in a tropical location, there is no better way to enjoy some warm weather than with a mojito. This cocktail is simple, refreshing, and the perfect drink to make at home!

Read more to hear some of our favourite mojito recipes to try this summer.

The Classic

What exactly is a mojito?

A mojito is a traditional Cuban highball made from only five ingredients: rum, sugar, lime, soda water, and mint. Easy right?

Note: Mojitos are also a great cocktail to enjoy without alcohol! Just remove the rum from any of the recipes below, and add more soda water.

  • 8-10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime (cut into four wedges)
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar (or to taste)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 1/2 fluid oz white rum
  • 1/2 cup club soda

Muddle the lime leaves and sugar at the bottom of your glass. The sugar will help to breakdown the mint - however, you can also replace this with a teaspoon (or to taste) of simple syrup or any sweetener you enjoy. Add in three lime wedges and continue to muddle until all of the flavours have released.

Add your ice into your glass and then the rum. Top with soda water and garnish with a sprig of mint and your final lime wedge. Enjoy!

This recipe is for one drink, but you can easily alter it to make a pitcher - or however many cocktails you want.

A Mojito - but make it fruity!

In the mood for something a bit more sweet and fruity? Then these additions to the classic recipe are the perfect thing to quench your thirst.

Blackberry or Raspberry Mojito

Add 6-8 berries to the classic recipe and muddle with the other ingredients. Add some full fruits as a garnish for an aesthetic finish!

Pineapple Mojito

Add 1/2 cup of pineapple flesh to the classic recipe and muddle with other ingredients- a fresh and ripe pineapple is always best, however, canned works amazingly. Top off the drink as you would with the classic, then garnish with a pineapple slice.

If you're making a virgin pineapple mojito, make the drink a little more tropical by replacing the rum with pineapple juice.

Watermelon Mojito

Juice or blend 2 cups of watermelon chunks, and it to your glass with the rum. Top with a watermelon slice for garnish.
