Property Profile: The Columbia at Brewery District

I CONFESS, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Sapperton neighbourhood. There’s something irresistibly charming about this well-established area of New Westminster. So, I’ve been keeping a close eye on The Brewery District, a forward-thinking, master-planned community from Wesgroup Properties — and what I’m seeing is delightful.

Located on the former Labatt’s Brewery site, this community has already developed an engaging, lively ambiance. People here talk to each other, and laughter is heard often. “Save-On-Foods, Browns Socialhouse, Shoppers Drug Mart, Starbucks, and Freshii are just some of the amenities that are already here,” says Beau Jarvis, senior vice-president of development. “There’s no waiting for an on-site grocery store or somewhere to grab a coffee with friends.”

And there’s another bonus that’s a hit with the increasing number of young couples who want to raise their family in an urban setting, close to transit that still provides the sense of community and security associated with the suburbs. “More and more of these potential buyers tell us safety is a major consideration in the buying decision. At Brewery District, we’ve made it a priority to be proactive in addressing these safety concerns through intelligent design features.”

Rapidly, he lists just a few: a well-lit pedestrian promenade to the Sapperton SkyTrain that’s situated just 200 metres away, shops and restaurants clustered around public plazas so there are people around at all hours of the day and night, FOB access that meets Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) standards, and strategically placed outdoor lighting to illuminate shadowy corners. “Plus, with the Transit Police as one of your neighbours, security is automatically enhanced.”
