Spring Activities in New Westminster

After a wet and snowy winter, we are thrilled by the first signs of spring. Birds chirping, warmer temperatures and brighter evenings herald the upcoming season and we are so excited to share with you some events close to The Brewery District in New Westminster that’ll help you spring out of the winter blues.

Be/Longing Art Exhibition

When: until Oct 7, 2018
Where: New Westminster Museum
Price: FREE

If you've visited Brewery District over the last several months, you may have seen local artist Annie Briard's large scale public art installation on display at Browns Socialhouse. You can see more of Annie's work currently on display at the New Westminster Museum. The Be/Longing exhibition explores experiences of belonging and longing to be at home and includes work by Briard and a number of other artists.

Easter at Queen’s Park

When: Sunday, April 1st, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Where: Queen’s Park, New Westminster
Cost: FREE

Celebrate Easter at Queen’s Park where there will be lots of activities for the whole family including face painting, crafts, an arts and imagination station, trampoline fun at the Flip, Flop and Fly zone and the opportunity to sit in a New Westminster fire truck!

Mt. Baker and Cherry Blossoms Paint and Sip Night with 100 Braid Studios

Where: 100 Braid Street, New Westminster
When: Thursday, April 5th, 7:00 – 9:30 pm
Cost: $40 for single ticket, $75 for two tickets

Get in touch with your creative side while enjoying a craft beer or a glass of wine. An artist will guide the group through a painting of Mt. Baker and Cherry Blossoms step by step. Commemorate the beginning of spring with your very own painting of blooming cherry blossoms. All painting supplies, beverages and light snacks are provided.

PS. Make sure to visit Tipperary Park and Friendship Garden at 511 Royal Ave this spring to enjoy cherry blossom trees in bloom.

Visit 100 Braid St Artists in their Studios

When: April 7th, 12:00 – 5:00 pm
Where: 200-100 Braid St., New Westminster
Cost: FREE

In case your artist curiosities have been piqued during the Paint and Sip night, take the opportunity to visit 100 Braid St Studios on the first Saturday of April as they open their doors and invite the community to visit artists in their own unique workspaces. Take young ones who show creative interest and potential for their chance to learn more about a typical day in the artist’s life and a glimpse into the creative process.

Royal City Musical Theatre presents Cabaret at Massey Theatre

When: April 12th – April 29th
Where: Massey Theatre 735 – 8th Avenue, New Westminster
Cost: Tickets are $33 for adults and $24 for students

This spring, take the opportunity for a night out in the town enjoying a production of the Tony Award winning musical Cabaret. This will be the Royal City Musical Theatre Society’s 29th consecutive annual production and will be performed at Massey Theatre- BC’s largest theatre, opened in 1949. Cabaret is set in 1931 Berlin and features some of the most memorable songs in theatre history like ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Maybe This Time’, dance numbers and a love story. There are some adult themes in the production.

New West Festival of Words

When: April 13 - 15th
Where: Inn at the Quay, 900 Quayside Drive, New Westminster
Cost: up to $30

LitFest New West brings together a variety of programing through readings, storytelling, slam poetry sessions, workshops and more. This year's four featured authors include Gail Anderson-Dargatz, JJ Lee, Roberta Rich, and Rob Taylor.
